Oracle: Oracle will deploy database servers in Azure facilities

Oracle will host its Exadata database-optimized server and Real Application Clusters in Microsoft Azure data centers under a contract. The businesses now offer "Oracle Database@Azure," so Oracle and Azure clients can mix their data with Microsoft's apps and infrastructure via the Azure interface with low latency. The offering will have several availability zones.

Oracle claims Exadata can perform tens of millions of operations per second over petabytes of data with a latency of less than 20 microseconds. Customers would no longer have to pay to move data from Azure to Exadata after colocating to Azure facilities. Oracle migration services and Azure Consumption Commitment credits can be used to buy Database@Azure services. Oracle will run the service.

In a YouTube update, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Oracle CTO Larry Ellison said the new product will improve AI because Oracle's databases may hold data. Additionally, Oracle hopes the initiative will encourage more customers to adopt the cloud.

Oracle is linked to Microsoft. The two integrated in 2019 to let clients execute computational operations across both clouds, requiring direct fiber links between their data centers. The Azure Portal added Oracle software in 2022. This current move expands that and reduces latency. Due to GPU constraints, Microsoft and Oracle explored pooling AI servers in May 2023. Microsoft chose GPU cloud provider CoreWeave for a multi-billion transaction.
